About our furniture
The Timber: Jarrah (eucalyptus marginata), one of the hardest timbers around. Grows only in the south-west of Western Australia. Colour varies from a light salmon-pink through to deep purpley reds and chocolate browns. Works well and takes a lovely polish. Recycled and new timber used.
Blackwood (acacia melanoxylon) from Tasmania and Victoria is a hardwood of a light to medium tan brown colour. Takes a silky polish.
Camphor laurel (cinnamomum camphora) is used for drawer bottoms in our chests of drawers and as the base in our blanket boxes.

The Finish: Viv is our master polisher and her attention to detail is legendary. All our furniture is finished with a resin -oil product that is very hard wearing and non-toxic. It is applied by hand and rubbed to a fine lustre.
Upkeep:  We use orange oil as a reviver and for general upkeep of the finish.

The Construction: Traditional joints and the highest quality glues are used throughout, guaranteeing a truly long-lasting heirloom piece.

The Hardware: We source the best hardware available, and make our own iron handles and iron table ends.

The Design: All our furniture is designed by Dave. Influence is Arts and Crafts. Elegant simplicity and ergonomic practicality are the guidelines for producing timeless designs unaffected by the vagaries of fashion.

The Buyer: Our furniture is sold through galleries such as  Bungendore Woodworks Gallery near Canberra and has gone to people from all over the world. We think there is an Ironwood Studio piece on just about every continent - a testament to its universal appeal.
